UN Raises Alarm Over Trump’s Threats on Iran Infrastructure

Janani G 1 week ago World News

Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over recent remarks by Donald Trump threatening attacks on Iran’s energy and public infrastructure.

According to the United Nations spokesperson, the Secretary-General is “alarmed” by Trump’s social media post warning of possible strikes on power plants, bridges, and other facilities if Iran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The comments come as tensions continue to rise in West Asia during the second month of the ongoing conflict.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated that international law must be respected by all parties. He stressed that civilian infrastructure, including energy facilities, should not be targeted under any circumstances. Even if such locations are considered military objectives, attacks that risk excessive harm to civilians are prohibited.

Guterres has repeatedly called for dialogue and diplomacy to end the conflict. He urged all sides, including the United States, Israel, and Iran, to stop hostilities and seek peaceful solutions.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global shipping route for oil and gas. As tensions persist, the UN continues to push for immediate steps toward peace and stability in the region.
