India’s Forest and Tree Cover Increases: ISFR 2023 Report Released

Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, unveiled the 'India State of Forest Report 2023' at the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun.
The report reveals that India's total forest and tree cover has increased to 8,27,357 square kilometers, accounting for 25.17% of the nation's geographical area. Of this, 7,15,343 square kilometers constitute forest cover, while 1,12,014 square kilometers represent tree cover.
Compared to the 2021 assessment, the total forest and tree cover has grown by 1,445 square kilometers, including a rise of 156 square kilometers in forest cover and 1,289 square kilometers in tree cover.
Yadav highlighted the advanced technology deployed by the Forest Survey of India (FSI) for real-time forest fire alerts and management services, ensuring better conservation efforts.
The ISFR, published every two years by the FSI, provides an in-depth analysis of the country's forest and tree resources, utilizing satellite data and field surveys.
