MAJOR PROJECT UNDER PROGRESS IN TAMIL NADU ROAD DEVELOPMENT COMPANY LIMITED (TNRDC)

Chennai Peripheral Ring Road is conceptualized to meet the increasing traffic demand in the Chennai Metropolitan Area, Government of Tamil Nadu (GoTN). Chennai Peripheral Ring Road(CPRR) is placed as one priority project in the “Comprehensive Integrated Master Plan for Chennai – Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (2015)” developed based on the agreement between the Government of Japan and Government of India. Among several sections of CPRR, GoTN plans to construct section-I that provides better connectivity around the city catering future traffic requirements and provide efficient commercial transportation by enhancing port connectivity. This road will facilitate container movement from southern districts to Ennore Port.

Construction of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road Phase-I (Northern Port Access Road)/ (NPAR) Connecting Ennore Port with Thatchur on AH-45 including Link Road to Chennai Outer Ring Road from NPAR, is considered as Section-I of Chennai Peripheral Road. The length of the Project is 25.38 Km. Administrative sanction was accorded for Rs.2673.42 crore for section I of Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR). TNRDC is the Managing Associate for the above project.

Civil works for the above project was entrusted to the contractor M/s TATA ProjectsLimited – IAV VOZ CPRR Joint Venture and the work is in progress.

The salient features of this project are as follows.

1. Project Length : 25.38 Kms

2. Width of Carriageway: Dual 3 lanes Main Carriageway and 2 lane service

road on each side.

3. Width of RoW: 100 M width for NPAR and 50-70 M width for Link Road.

4. Interchange : 1 No

5. Road Over Bridge (ROB): 2 Nos.

6. Major Bridges: 8 Nos.

7. Minor Bridges : 7 Nos.

8. Vehicular Under Pass (VUP) / Vehicular Over Pass (VOP) : 5 Nos

9. Box Culverts: 76 Nos.

10. Truck Layby : 4 Nos.

11. Bus Bays : 10 Nos.

The above project commenced on 27.01.2022 and the period for completion of civil works is 3 years (ie) 26.01.2025.

CPRR Section 1 site was viewed by Additonal Chief Secretary of HMPD Pradeep Yadav IAS., Managing Director of TNRDC P.N. Sridhar IAS., Chief General Manager of TNRDC M. Vijaya , General Manager of TNRDC M. Ganasekaran and other department officials.
