Under the leadership of Municipal Administration Minister KN Nehru, a review meeting regarding the monitoring and security measures being carried out in the areas under the Metropolitan Chennai Corporation was held at the Ribbon Building Complex in view of the southwest monsoon.
In this inspection meeting, he reviewed the activities undertaken following the current rains and the work to be completed before the northeast monsoon. The ongoing rainwater drainage works should be fully completed before the onset of the Northeast Monsoon. Soil particles deposited in rainwater drains should be completely removed. In the water bodies under the corporation and in rivers and canals including Adyar and Koovam under the control of the Water Resources Department, the removal of air lotuses should be continued and completed.
All motor pumps and machinery should be ready in anticipation of rain. Actions should be taken quickly so that water does not accumulate in any area due to rain. All concerned officers including Zonal Officers should carry out the work under supervision
It should be ensured that safety arrangements are made at the places where rainwater drainage is constructed. Chennai Metro Rail Corporation, Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Highways Department, Water Resources Department, Power Department etc. should carry out the work expeditiously without any harm to the people. Road works should be carried out with quality and speed. Relief centers should be kept ready.

Considering the welfare of the people living in the metropolitan Chennai Corporation area, special medical camps were conducted during the rainy season. Ward-wise, zone-wise and headquarters-wise committees have been formed to immediately repair road cuts like drinking water, sewerage and electricity board works. Municipal Administration Minister advised in the meeting that these committees should work well
Earlier, the Municipal Administration Minister inspected the monitoring and precautionary measures being taken in the areas under the Metropolitan Chennai Corporation which are being monitored from the Integrated Command and Control Room at the headquarters.

After several years, more than 17 cm of rain in June resulted in rain water logging at Kathibara junction due to metro rail works and Ganesapuram tunnel due to construction of railway flyover. This reservoir was also removed immediately. All other locations immediately returned to normal.
In the meeting held today, it was advised about the ways to prevent water from stagnating in the rainwater areas, keeping motor pumps and vehicles ready, repairing the damaged roads immediately, and completing the unfinished rainwater drainage and road works immediately and bringing them to use.
The officials have been advised to take measures to prevent rainwater from stagnating during the monsoon season. All have worked well on behalf of the Corporation. In order to find a permanent solution to prevent water stagnation in Ganesapuram tunnel, permission has been obtained from the Railway Department and steps are being taken for this. It has been advised to complete all the rainwater drainage works within a period of 2 months ahead of the northeast monsoon. He informed that necessary amount of motor pumps are ready to discharge the rainwater. During this inspection, Commissioner (retd) Dr. G.S.
