Minister Senthil Balaji, who was arrested by the enforcement department and underwent heart surgery at a private hospital, has been shifted to Puzhal Jail.
The enforcement department arrested Minister Senthil Balaji from his house in Chennai on June 14 in connection with the illegal money transfer case. Then, he suddenly developed chest pain and was admitted to the Government Pannoku High Specialty Hospital on Anna Road.
Doctors immediately recommended him to undergo bypass heart surgery.
He was transferred to a private hospital on the 15th as per the order of the High Court. Heart surgery was done there on 21st. His judicial custody was extended till the 26th.
Meanwhile, two judges J. Nishaphanu and D. Bharatha Chakraborty who heard the recruitment petition filed by his wife in the High Court gave a different verdict on the 4th.
Senthil Balaji can stay for a maximum of 10 days in a private hospital. After that, the jail or the jail department should be transferred to the hospital,” ordered Justice Bharatasakravarthy.
Later, CV Karthikeyan, who was appointed as the 3rd judge, investigated the case on the 14th and ruled that 'Senthil Balaji's arrest and judicial custody is legal'.
Senthil Balaji was discharged from the hospital yesterday evening after the 10-day deadline given by Justice Bharata Chakraborty. Puzhal was brought to Central Jail at 5.30 pm by '108' ambulance under police escort in police vehicles. More than 50 DMK members gathered there and raised slogans condemning the central government.
Senthil Balaji was thoroughly examined by prison doctors. A team of doctors are going to monitor him for a few days at the hospital in the jail premises. After his health improves, he will be transferred to the first-class cell for remand prisoners.
