Inspections will be done regularly at cracker shops and godowns: Minister

A day after a cracker godown explosion in Krishnagiri killed nine persons and critically injured 11, Food and Civil Supplies Minister R. Sakkarapani declared that officials would conduct frequent inspections at cracker godowns and shops to ensure that safety procedures and standards were observed.

He informed reporters that steps would be taken to avoid such mishaps.

The owners of cracker stores in the area will be invited to a meeting. "Cracker shops and godowns are operating in town areas not only in Krishnagiri but throughout the State." Officials were given instructions to conduct regular inspections," he stated.

He said a solatium of ₹3 lakh each was given to the families of the deceased on Saturday.

On Sunday, ₹1 lakh each was provided to the severely injured persons. For the two persons who sustained minor injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru, ₹50,000 each would be given.

On Saturday, he claimed, the families of the deceased were each given a solatium of 3 lakh.

The severely injured were each given one lakh rupees on Sunday. 50,000 would be given to each of the two people who got minor injuries and were admitted to a private hospital in Bengaluru.
