The Forecast 2 years ago Tamil Nadu

Air travellers utilizing the domestic terminal at Chennai airport during peak hours may be spared the inconvenience of crowding and bottlenecking beginning in October. From next month, the airport will have two operable domestic terminals, which may reduce congestion and lines, particularly for passengers flying during the early morning rush hour.

The international flight operations have been relocated to T2 terminal in the new integrated complex, which was partially inaugurated in July. While the existing domestic terminal (T1) will continue to operate normally, work is underway to transform the previous international terminal (T4) into the second domestic terminal, according to Airports Authority of India (AAI) authorities.

The T4 terminal alteration work is likely to be completed in a couple of weeks, according to officials. "The immigration counters are currently being dismantled. Three conveyor belts are on their way to the T4 terminal. Then we just need to make a few more changes and do a thorough cleaning before we can open it. The operation of two domestic terminals will greatly increase the airport's capacity to handle more passengers, according to an official.

Signage that is easy to read

Airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Akasa will utilize the T1 terminal, while Air India, Air Asia, and Vistara will use the T4 terminal, according to officials. According to sources, it was critical that signage be properly positioned at all vital areas of the airport, including the entry and exit and service roads, so that travelers knew which airlines operated from T1 and T4 terminals. Though officials intended to open two domestic terminals in July, this is unlikely to happen until next month. The T4 terminal's arrival hall will be functioning a decade after its opening.
