The self-enumeration phase of the Population Census 2027 has recorded a strong response, with over 5.72 lakh families submitting their details online since April 1.

Launched as part of the upcoming national census, the digital self-enumeration process allows citizens to fill in their information independently and submit it through an online platform. This initiative aims to make the data collection process faster, more efficient, and accessible to the public.

In the first phase, the facility has been introduced in selected States and Union Territories. Officials reported that more than 5.72 lakh households have already completed their registration digitally, marking a significant step toward modernizing census operations.

The self-enumeration option is expected to reduce manual workload and improve accuracy in data collection. It also offers convenience for citizens by enabling them to complete the process from their homes.

In Tamil Nadu, the digital self-enumeration drive is scheduled to begin on July 17, 2026.

With growing participation, the initiative reflects a positive shift toward technology-driven governance and smoother public engagement in national data collection efforts.
