Sanskrit to Become Mandatory in Kendriya Vidyalayas

Janani G 2 days ago Education

Kendriya Vidyalaya schools across the country will introduce Sanskrit as a mandatory subject in at least one section of Classes 6 and 9 from the 2026–27 academic year. The decision has been taken as part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of the government’s three-language policy in schools.

Education authorities stated that the move is intended to provide students with greater exposure to languages while ensuring consistency in learning across the Kendriya Vidyalaya system. The policy is expected to benefit students studying in Central Government schools, particularly those whose families frequently relocate due to official transfers.

Officials explained that children of Central Government employees often move between different states and educational environments. By adopting a uniform language framework, schools aim to reduce disruptions in education and help students adjust more smoothly when changing locations.

The introduction of Sanskrit in selected sections of Classes 6 and 9 is expected to be implemented in a phased and organised manner. School administrations will make the necessary academic arrangements before the start of the new academic session.

Authorities believe the initiative will support language learning while helping students continue their education without interruption, ensuring a more stable and consistent academic experience across the country.
