NCERT Book Row: Alok Prasanna Kumar Questions Targeting of Experts

Janani G 1 month ago Education

Lawyer and researcher Alok Prasanna Kumar has expressed surprise over being singled out in the controversy surrounding an National Council of Educational Research and Training textbook chapter on the judiciary.

Kumar, who helped draft the now-withdrawn Class 8 chapter titled “Role of Judiciary in Society,” including a section on “Corruption in Judiciary,” said the content was based on publicly available and accurate information. He stated that there was no selective targeting of the judiciary in the chapter.

The issue gained attention after NCERT Director Dinesh Saklani reportedly identified Kumar, along with Michel Danino and Suparna Diwakar, as being responsible for drafting the chapter.

According to the experts, the process involved multiple contributors, and they believe it is not appropriate to attribute responsibility to only a few individuals without acknowledging the full drafting process.

The controversy has raised questions about transparency in textbook preparation and the need for clarity in academic review processes.
