Nellai Kannan, a Tamil scholar, orator, and bar arbitrator, died of illness. The 77-year-old had recently undergone medical treatment. He died at his home in Tirunelveli district due to illness.

He has friendships with former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Kamarasar and lyricist Kannadasan. Since the 1970s, Nellai Kannan's voice has been heard on Tamil platforms. Many people referred to him as Tamilkadal because, like Balkadal, he was fluent in Tamil.

Nellai Kannan is a politically astute orator who knows how to speak from the beginning to the end of any literature, beginning with the Kamba Ramayana. Nellai Kannan, who does not consider literary speech to be a profession, has also harshly criticised a number of political leaders.

Kannan had been a member of the Congress party for many years. He has worked closely with prominent Congress leaders such as Indira Gandhi, Kamaraj, Mamata Banerjee, G K Moopanar, and P Chidambaram, among others.

He ran in assembly elections three times as a Congress candidate and lost each time.

In 1989, he ran for the Tirunelveli assembly constituency for the Congress, but he was defeated by veteran Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader A L Subramanian.

Meanwhile, due to his poor health, he was admitted to the hospital several times. In this context, his unexpected death has caused shock and sadness in the world of Tamil literature. Many people, including politicians and writers, are praising him.
