To improve the lives of Tamil Nadu farmers and increase food production, the government announced free electricity to one lakh farmers in one year and provided electricity connections to one lakh farmers in 6 months, a feat never done before by any government.

This government, which works for the benefit of farmers, has announced that 50,000 farmers will be given free electricity in this financial year as well, in the 2022-2023 Energy Department subsidy request, as a seed for the green revolution in Tamil Nadu.

Accordingly, the scheme of providing free electricity to 50 thousand farmers was launched by the Chief Minister on 11.11.2022 at Aravakurichi, Karur district, and on the same day orders were given to provide electricity connection to 20 thousand farmers. Also, it was announced on the stage that day that the project would be completed within 100 days.

As an important part of the activities of this government which is fulfilling the promises made to the people, this scheme has created history by providing free electricity to 50 thousand farmers within 61 days from the day of its launch on 11.11.2022, i.e. last 9th.

With this, this government has set a new record by providing free electricity connections to a total of 1.5 lakh farmers in the last 1½ years of taking charge. As a result, the irrigated area in Tamil Nadu is expanding, the yield is increasing and the production is also increasing.

Among the 50,000 agricultural users who were given free electricity in the current year, Chief Minister M.K.Stalin yesterday issued electricity connection orders to 5 people, including the 50,000th beneficiary. Minister for Power, Prohibition and Coordinating V. Senthilbalaji, Additional Chief Secretary of Energy Department Ramesh Chand Meena, Additional Chief Secretary, Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution Corporation Rajesh Lakhani, Director (Distribution) M. Sivalingarajan participated in this event.
