Tamil Nadu government and Renault-Nissan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai.

The Renault-Nissan alliance announced on Monday that it will invest 5,300 crore in Tamil Nadu, with plans to manufacture six new models at its plant near Chennai. On Monday, the Tamil Nadu government and Renault-Nissan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in Chennai.

Renault and Nissan will each produce three models for domestic and international customers, including two electric vehicles, with the investment expected to generate approximately 2,000 jobs, according to Nissan's Ashwani Gupta.

Mr. Gupta stated that the Chennai plant will become a carbon-neutral vehicle plant and that the partnership will be continued with a new agreement with the government of Tamil Nadu, and that the MoU is the first step in securing its long-term commitment in India and the region.

S. Krishnan I.A.S, aditional chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu and secretary of  Industries , Investment Promotion & Commerce Department, stated that the alliance's investment in the state would further cement Tamil Nadu's position as India's automobile capital, and that the investment of 5,300 crore was a significant step towards developing electric vehicles.

Renault and Nissan are proud to have called Tamil Nadu home for the past 15 years, according to Nissan India President Frank Torres, and they are poised to realise their full potential in the upcoming partnership.

Renault India Managing Director Venkatram Mamillapalle thanked the Tamil Nadu government for all of its support and promised to continue to make the state proud.

Guillaume Cartier, Chairperson for Nissan's Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania, was present, as was Taga Masayuki, Consul General of Japan in Chennai, Lise Talbot-Barre, Consul General of France in Puducherry and Chennai, Lise Talbot-Barre, and V. Vishnu I. A S., Managing Director and CEO of Guidance Tamil Nadu.
