Minister Shekharbabu has said that steps are being taken to bring the Kilambakkam bus stand to public use very soon. Shekharbabu said that he has been instructed to complete the work in days instead of months and said that he is going to meet Chief Minister M.K.Stalin for the opening ceremony.
The city gets stuck in heavy traffic due to intercity buses coming to Chennai Koyambedu bus station. A new bus stand has been constructed at a cost of Rs 314 crore in an area of 67 acres at Kilambakkam next to Vandalur to reduce traffic congestion in Chennai city.
There are 2 bus stations namely suburban bus station and suburban bus station. Also, a separate bus stand has been set up for omni buses. The construction work of this bus station, which has been built with all facilities, was started on 2019. Now the work is in final stage.
After this bus station comes into use, 60 percent of the buses plying from Coimbatore are planned to be diverted to Kilambakkam. It is said that all the buses going to places like Trichy, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Coimbatore, Salem will be operated from Kilambakkam. It is said that all the construction related work at Kilambakkam bus station will be completed by the end of March.
Currently, basic facilities are being provided. Toilet facilities, drinking water facilities and restaurants are being provided. The ground floor of this bus station has shops, restaurant, ticket counter, etc. The first floor has dormitories for the drivers and conductors and for the general public.
95 percent of the bus stand has been completed. Some remaining works are also progressing rapidly. In this situation, Ministers Shekhar Babu and Tha.Mo. Anbarasan inspected in person today. The Ministers inspected the construction work of the new bus station, which is almost complete.
Minister Shekharbabu said in a meeting with the media for this survey that works are being done to bring the Klampakkam bus stand to public use. Research work is being done in this regard. We are going to invite Chief Minister M.K.Stalin to the opening ceremony. He said that the work will be completed in days and not in months and the bus stand will be opened.
